It was finally time to put Applied Magic class into, well, Application. After a bunch of theory and a few in-class assignments, this was their biggest assignment yet. A real duel.
Well, as "real" as a duel as you could do with only one spell, the knockback jinx they had been practicing for the past few weeks. But this time it wouldn't be on training dummies, but a real person.
Hell yeah.
Devi slung his bag on the ground as he arrived in the dueling theatre, which was thankfully empty this Sunday afternoon. Maybe because this assignment was due tomorrow, and everyone in their class had completed their duel already.
He selected the small practice piste closest to him and claimed one side for himself, practicing his "flipendo" casting pattern until his assignment partner (and good friend) Tristan walked through the door.
"Yo," Devi nodded in greeting. "You ready?"
He'd let Tristan take as much time as he needed to get into the zone before starting the duel with a bow, just like their professor had instructed, and immediately pointed his wand at Tristan.
"Flipendo!" A burst of white light shot out of Devi's wand, screaming through the air and hitting Tristan square in the chest, sending him reeling backwards. Devon's face fell, that was a bit more intense than what he was expecting. It was... easy to push someone back like that. Scary.
"You okay, man?" He called out in concern, his defences fallen. Would Tristan take advantage of it?

Okay, here's what I'm thinking (also using this as a little trial for the greater dueling system):
We'll go by "rounds", 1 round = 1 post from each of us. Each round, we each take 1 action. The action options are very simple right now:
Push
Cast "flipendo".
Caster rolls 1d20+Sorcery
Target rolls 1d20+Agility
On a hit, the target is pushed 1 space backwards. On a critical hit (rolling a 20 on the dice AND the Target doesn't dodge), the target is pushed back 2 spaces. On a miss, nothing happens.
Step
Move forward 2 spaces.
There are 5 spaces on the piste. The center is space 0, Devi's "side" is the "-" side, Tristan's side is the "+" side. Devi is starting on space -1, Tristan is starting on space +1. The first person to fall off the piste (so be on space - or + 4) loses.
In the event that this system test is a big epic fail, idk we'll figure out something else haha.
Put your chosen action at the bottom of your post. This technically means that you can cheat and make your decision based on what the other person does, but IC, both of our actions happen at the same time. So just try and be fair haha.
Devi cast "Flipendo" this round. I used the site's rolling page for this. He rolled a 13, and you rolled a 8. So in your post, you'll do typical first post stuff, react to his attack and his hit, and take your action. If you also cast flipendo, you'll roll 1d10+7 for Devi's agility.
Hopefully this makes sense. If not, you know where to find me!
