Penwick.ink is a 16+, volunteer-run, fully independent writing site in a fully original setting within the Harry Potter universe. Many RP platforms either lock you into rigid systems, have a community that seems hard to break into, or overwhelm players wi
The Grounds of Penwick are broad, sprawling unevenly across the mountaintop as a patchwork of paths, fields, and ground falling sharply into the cliffs below. The terrain shifts quickly, rolling meadows give way to rocky outcrops, stone paths, and the winding trails that skirt the cliff’s edge. On clear days, the lawns feel nearly endless; in fog or storm, they seem to shrink to a thin strip of safety between the castle and the void beyond the edges of the cliffs.
On the edge of the castle grounds lies a narrow stone aqueduct, winding towards the cliffs and hills beyond Penwick. Once used to carry water from a distant spring into the heart of the school, it has long dried up. Now, only rainwater goes through the shallow channel. About a kilometer long and five meters wide, the walk is named for the unique magical phenomenon that happens there. Or, rather, the lack thereof. Spells cast within the space will simply fail, magically innate abilities such as The Sight no longer function, and lycanthropes don't transform into a werewolf during a full moon.
Built by founder Viviane Floranti herself, the Aviary is home to more than just owls. Located in a broad and squat tower with several levels, different species of birds are held here. The aviary is not some barren tower but a carefully designed and maintained bird paradise. At the center of the Aviary grows a broad, enchanted tree, which extends upward through the various levels. There are many water features, branches, greenery, nestling spots, drinking basins, and more. During the day, the aviary is a cacophony of chirps and birdsong, which only quiets during nighttime. It can be a bit breezy inside as there are many slits in the masonry to allow for proper ventilation. The floors are sloped for waste management, though cleaning the Aviary remains a common and intensely disliked form of detention.
