Located on the grounds behind the castle, the Greenhouses and adjoining Gardens occupy most of the area behind the castle. The Greenhouses are three large, tunnel-shaped glass structures. Surrounding these on three sides are mundane gardens where food, herbs, and other produce are grown. It is the groundkeeper's task to maintain these gardens and ensure a steady supply of vegetables for the kitchen. Students sometimes volunteer to help in the gardens, or get sent here as a form of detention.
From the grounds behind the castle, where the greenhouses are, you can follow a path which slopes down into the earth and reaches a cellar door. Passing through this door leads into a tunnel located in the Subterranium and at the end of this short tunnel lays the Alchemy Classroom. To either side of this tunnel there are small storerooms where dried herbs, plants and potions ingredients are kept.
A section of the gardens next to the greenhouses which is solely used to grow pumpkins. Most of these pumpkins look quite ordinary, if a bit large. There is not much to see here in winter, but in autumn this quiet little spot takes becomes ineffably charming as some of the pumpkins glow with a warm, slowly pulsing light. Visiting the pumpkin patch during Halloween is ill-advised, unless you want to be scared witless.
