Mercator Common RoomThe Mercator Commons is less of a common room and more of an exhibit of Gerard Mercator's collection where students so happen to live. The walls are covered in deep maroon wallpaper patterned with golden stars. Framed charts, navigational instruments, and curiosities from Mercator’s collection hang between tall bookcases, while golden chandeliers cast a steady glow across the room.
At the center of the room, a great orrery dominates, its enchanted planets and rings gliding silently, casting shifting constellations of light across the walls at night.
The seating is varied and purposeful: long oak tables to sprawl notes on, high-backed armchairs tucked into alcoves for reading, gently swaying basket chairs suspended from the ceiling, and a nest of beanbags that reconfigure themselves when someone flops into them.
On the far wall hangs a large enchanted map reflecting the current world. Coastlines creep and retreat, faint trade routes glow like veins, tiny ships crawl across painted seas while forests ripple with unseen winds. While the details are far too small to glean useful information from them, it's nonetheless a marvel of Mercator's collection. On either side of the map, large frosted glass doors lead the way to the two Mercator dorms.Topics: 0, Posts: 0 - No posts
