Devon received a package from Marion at breakfast. Scarfing down the rest of his plate, he quickly slipped out of the dining hall to head to his dorm room. Thank god, his eyes were already irritating him.

When Devon left for Penwick, he felt very grown-up. Leaving his little town in nowhere, Wales, to go and live in a big castle, eat whatever food he wanted, have his weekends totally free, and learn to fly on a broom much earlier than he would be able to drive a car.

He opened up the parcel, setting aside the card his nan had written him for now, a small box covered in Muggle branding and warnings.

Now that he was here, it was really overwhelming. Not so much the school part, he was doing okay, and honestly hadn’t expected to do any better than the bare minimum. The time management was a bit difficult; he found himself sleeping in until concerning hours on weekends after nights of staying up way too late, but it wasn’t the biggest issue in the world.

Devi leaned close to his mirror, gently pinching his contact lenses and pulling them off, just like Marion had taught him only a few months on. He blinked as he looked into the eyes reflected back at him.

Red.

He stood there for a moment, holding the old lenses that turned his eyes back to their boring brown. Normal brown.

This was the hardest part of Penwick. He didn’t even know what he was anymore. How to be. He had to figure it out himself. Alone.

When looking at himself was too much, he looked down at his very obviously colored contacts. "The hell am I supposed to do with these,” he muttered to himself. He didn’t want his roommates to see them, he was already lucky that they had opposite enough schedules that they never saw him when he wasn’t wearing them. His eyes darted around the room, finally landing on his nightstand drawer. Good enough. He opened it and tossed his old contacts inside, figuring he’d find a better way to dispose of them later.

Pushing past his slight identity crisis, Devon quickly opened and put in his new pair of lenses, blinking to try and adjust to them. His vision focused after a moment, the world taking on its slightly sepia-colored hue that Devi had come to know. Maybe wizards had contacts that wouldn’t take the beauty of colours away so much.
