personality.
Effie's childhood was mostly spent around her parents. As an only child, one often spoiled positively rotten by a doting mother and father, Effie never wanted for anything. Because of this and her lack of close childhood companions, Effie doesn't have many friends. It isn't for lack of trying. Effie tries at everything she does, even if it takes all of her effort and time, but for some reason, people seem to think that talking at them isn't very entertaining.
Despite this, Effie tries to look on the bright side of things as much as she possibly can. She takes on the world with an "out of sight, out of mind" mentality, bubbly and scatter-brained as can be. More than anything, people probably think she's annoying, but she has a million acquaintances because it's awfully difficult to truly hate her.
Effie lacks the social awareness and understanding of her peers, prone to saying accidentally impolite things or coming off as a spoiled brat. It's just how she was raised: two rich parents who never had to ask for anything raise one well-meaning daughter who wants the world.
Artistic to her core, Effie has a particular affinity for music and dance. She loves to sing and was taught at least three instruments, her father claims, before she could even walk. Her intelligence is far more in-line with that of artists than scholars, and she struggles in school greatly for it.
As a result of her parents' heritage, Effie has a distinctively odd accent. A blend of the Louisiana drawl and a French lilt, she is difficult to understand.
physical description.
Effie has naturally curly, dark hair, reaching shoulder-length, but it's usually tied back in ribbons or done with the homemade curl products her father formulates for her. Her eyes are big and brown. With clear, dark skin, Effie always looks clean and well put together. Her mother's roots have made it feel impossible to look anything other than perfectly presentable at all times (not that Effie minds wearing pretty dresses and cute bows). Her wardrobe is nothing short of extravagant and classic. Lace and bows and pressed collars, Effie values her looks and the image that she projects onto her beloved ma and pa.
Upon closer inspection, however, there are cracks in the metaphorical armor. One sock higher than the other, a ripped stocking, a hastily tied ribbon because she was rushing out the door.
Effie smells of oranges (ha ha) and mint, cinnamon, and fresh lemonade.

The Clemente family comes from a long, proud line of pureblooded witches and wizards. The Clementes, a powerful MACUSA family that expects most of their family to go into government, hail from the magical community of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Booker Clemente, an auror for MACUSA, had always grown up with a broader view of the world than was encouraged by his family. Fascinated by muggle culture and resistant to the concept of pureblood supremacy (something his mother always attributed to him visiting his muggle Great Aunt Lucy often), Booker always had goals further outside the realm of possibility for his family. Though he held down his job steadily for some time (likely due to nepotism), when he was twenty, Booker's life would change forever.
Virginie Laviolette, a wild thing from France, was everything he'd ever wanted in a woman. Bold, beautiful, funny, Booker was smitten with Virginie from the moment he laid eyes on her. Visiting the states on a "gap year" before she was slated to return overseas to attend the Wizarding Academy of Dramatic Arts, Virginie found herself in Baton Rouge. The friendship between Virginie and Booker was a whirlwind of romance, and the two, absolutely taken with one another, had vowed themselves to a lifetime alongside each other within three months of knowing each other.
The Clemente family, while pleased with the fact that Virginie was a pureblooded witch of high status, were displeased with Booker's newfound distraction and his new dream to become a journalist, of all things. Likewise, the Laviolettes in France were furious with their daughter for abandoning her schooling dreams and her refusal to leave Louisiana to carry on with their expectations for her. The Laviolettes issued an ultimatum: return to France and marry a pureblood family friend, or face excommunication from the family. Virginie's choice was instantaneous. She remained in Baton Rouge alongside Booker.
Virginie was pregnant with their only child within two years of meeting Booker, and the two were married by winter.
Still frustrated with the choices he had made but begrudgingly accepting of his new life, the Clemente family allowed Booker to make off with a handsome gift of galleons to buy his pregnant wife and himself an idyllic little home on the bayou.
Their pride and joy became their daughter, Euphemia Fiona Jolie Clemente (a mouthful, because why choose two names when you can choose three?). Effie's childhood was filled with laughter, love, and more money than most children might ever see in their lives. Now successful in their own right, Booker became a journalist with his very own small-scale paper, The KetterBee, and a very devoted (if not cult-ish) following and Virginie became a special effects witch for local productions in their greater wizarding community.
When Effie was seven, the Clementes moved to Scotland to try and reconnect with the Laviolettes in France, which has (so far) not been all that successful. Effie's new life in Scotland, in Tobermory, Isle of Mull, is (almost) as brilliant and fun as the one she had back in Baton Rouge. The waterfront buildings are painted in bright rainbow colors and Effie spends her time in Scotland trying (and failing) not to bother the locals.
Upon her eleventh birthday, the Clementes elected to send Effie to Penwick for her education, and bid her a tearful goodbye.
first instance of accidental magic.
Effie showed her first instance of magic at the age of eight. Still too small to be playing out in the greater bodies of water without Booker, ever the worrywart, freaking out, Virginie had set out a metal tub in the backyard and filled it shallowly with water for Effie to play boats in. His overprotective nature meant constant hovering, standing over the tub and watching Effie's every move like a hawk.
"Pa," she had said, trying to shoo him away, "I can play in my... baby pool without you worryin' I'm gunna drown."
Booker shook his head. "Things happen. Little girls are fine and then their fathers turn around to check on something and before you know it Effie's buried in Resthaven Gardens—"
About half of the volume of the tub suddenly shot out of the metal confines and splashed Booker square in the face, without so much as a splash from Effie.
Growing increasingly frustrated, she had accidentally drenched her father in water.
