Storyteller Role & System

While rules and guidelines are essential to help maintain a roleplaying community, overly strict moderation can limit the stories some community members want to explore. The Storyteller role exists to balance these two things, allowing writers to engage in more complex narratives within Penwick while still respecting the community rating and established lore.

A Storyteller is a member of the community who is granted additional freedoms to participate in storylines and interactions that require careful handling and balance. This includes writing NPCs as viewpoint characters, creating or interacting with unique magical phenomena, creating interactions with dangerous magical creatures, using Unforgivables, and more.

It’s important to note that the Storyteller role is entirely optional. Every member can fully enjoy Penwick.ink without it, and it is by no means necessary to have fun, explore the forums, or participate in roleplay.

Requirements for the Storyteller role:
  • Community Tenure
Applicants must have been active on the site for at least 6 months on at least one account.
  • Positive Conduct
Applicants must have no unresolved issues related to lore, rules, or community behaviour. You must have no record of consistently godmoding, powerplaying, or min/maxing, and must not have shown any behaviour where you’ve actively tried to gain an unfair advantage over others.
Once both of these criteria are met, you may apply for the Storyteller role through the application HERE. Staff will verify that the tenure requirement is met and there are no outstanding concerns.

If you are denied the Storyteller role, a staff member will message you explaining why, as well as what would need to be done to rectify the concerns. You are welcome to reapply 3 months after your initial application.

Remember, the role is not a reward for writing quality or popularity, but a permission tier based on trust and responsibility. The storyteller role may be revoked by staff at any time if a Storyteller breaks site rules or otherwise abuses the additional freedoms the role provides.
