Stepping into the common room from the outside, students find themselves beneath a glass atrium, the domed ceiling making the commons shift with the changing skies. Directly beneath the dome is a labyrinth pattern inlaid into the stone floor, crafted of pale limestone and dark granite.
Beyond the dome atrium, the room transitions from glass to stone-and-wood walls. Lofted shelves climb multiple stories, reachable by wrought-iron walkways from the upper landing or by sliding ladders.
The main floor is filled with seating areas: armchairs around low tables, cushioned alcoves, and hammocks in tucked-away corners. A circular fire pit flickers in the centre of the room, the main place to gather during the colder months.
A door in the back of the room leads to the first Floranti dormitory, while a tightly spiralling staircase leads to the upper landing, where the walkways and second dormitory can be reached.

It was the first time Frank Hamm had ever stepped foot inside Penwick School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Since his arrival, he had heard nothing but praise for the ancient institution, yet hearing stories was nothing compared to seeing it with his own eyes.

Stepping into the common room beneath the towering glass atrium, Frank paused as his gaze swept across the labyrinth inlaid into the stone floor. Drawn to it, he knelt and brushed his hand across the cool limestone and dark granite, a smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth.

"Must've been no small feat to craft this beauty..." he murmured to himself.

Rising to his feet, his attention drifted upward to the magnificent domed ceiling, where the afternoon sky stretched overhead in shifting shades of blue. Sunlight filtered through the glass, illuminating dancing dust motes and casting soft patterns across the commons.

With his satchel slung over one shoulder, Frank wandered deeper into the room. Towering bookshelves climbed toward the upper walkways, while clusters of armchairs, alcoves, and hammocks invited students to relax. The warm glow of the circular fire pit at the center of the room contrasted with the cool stone beneath his boots.

Choosing an armchair near the fire, Frank eased himself into the seat and set a thick spellbook on his lap. It remained unopened. Instead, his eyes wandered across the room, quietly observing the conversations, laughter, and life unfolding around him. A newcomer among strangers, he couldn't help but wonder if someone would break the silence and introduce themselves.
